The DSO Rocks!

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has a great program for kids of all ages. Every few months, they run a Saturday morning series for children. There's a Tiny Tots performance for younger ones, and, when the orchestra isn't on strike, a young people's concert for older children. In addition to the musical performances, they have all sorts of great activities before and after the concerts including face painting, crafts and an instrument petting zoo.

We have attended past performances through our local Mom's Club. I'm the coordinator for our Mini Mozarts special interest group and I've organized a group trip to three of the past shows. Groups receive discounted admission which makes the reasonably-priced event even better!

This Saturday, we saw The Candy Band, a local group of four Detroit moms with their own kid-friendly punk band. My kids LOVED the show, especially Aidan. It was really entertaining for kids and parents (even the dads!).

There is another concert coming up this Spring and we're already making plans. I'm also looking forward to taking the kids to the Young People's Concert series when they are a little older. The DSO is just one of the many, many resources downtown Detroit offers families. It is reasonably priced, safe, consistently entertaining and lots of fun! I hope you go soon!!!
